# An observation port on every workflow

> A stream of a run's events and a published shape for its state, so a view can be ours or yours.

<Note>
  **Coming soon.** Not in this release. This page says what the feature is,
  so that the shape is public before the code is.
</Note>

A run already knows everything worth watching: which step is
running, what each one decided, what a reviewer sent back, what the whole
thing has spent. Today a host reads that by holding the run and folding its
events itself.

An observation port makes it a contract instead: a stream of the run's
events, and a published shape for the state they fold into. Our own view
becomes one consumer of it rather than the only way to see a run, and a
view built against the shape keeps working when ours changes.

See [Watch a run in the browser](/driving/monitor).
